Hindi Diwas Competitions

To commemorate Hindi Diwas, Department of Hindi is organising a numerous activities for its students.

Question 1. How many groups of bugs with the same number of spots can you find?

Answer. There are 4 groups of bugs.


Question 2. A zookeeper has eight pairs of animals. Each pair has two babies.  Of the babies, four are sent to other zoos.  How many animals total, including both babies and adults, remain at the zoo?

Answer. 28 animals. 16 are adults and 12 are babies.


Grade-VII to X

Question 1. How many triangles, of any size are there in this star?


Answer. 20 triangles.

Question 2.. Imagine that instead of the usual amount of time, there are 40 minutes in an hour and 40 seconds in a minute. If this is true, then how many seconds are in three hours?

Answer. 4800 sec in three hours.

Grade-VII to X

Question 1. A singles tennis tournament is held in which 30 men participate.  If a player is eliminated as soon as he loses a match.  How many matches are required to determine the winner?

Answer. Every time a match is held, one player is eliminated and to eliminate 29 of the 30 players, 29 matches are required.


Question 2. Four friends have a waffle eating contest. Jenny eats three waffles. Terry eats two more waffles than Jenny. Liam eats half the number of waffles that Terry eats. Riley eats three more waffles than Liam eats. Who wins the waffle eating contest?

Answer. Riley, with 5 ½ waffles.

Puzzles for Grade-VII to X

Question 1. Which side will win the last tug of war?


Answer. In the last event you can replace the dog by two girls and a boy because, as the second tug of war showed, they are equally matched. The last tug ofwar then becomes a contest between five girls and a boy on the left against four boys on the right. But the first event’ showed that five girls are as strong as four boys-that is, a boy is stronger than a girl. The tug of war comes down to a contest between five boys on the left and five girls on the right. So the left-hand team will win. This all supposes that each girl pulls as hard as the next, and similarly for the boys.

Question 2. A heavy tree trunk can be sawed into a 12 ft long piece in one minute.  How long will it take to saw into twelve equal pieces?

Answer. 11 minutes. The twelfth piece does not require sawing.
